We put a heavy emphasis on getting students to recognize the importance of operating from the holster and not just the bench. When you only operate from a bench you typically neglect to utilize your safety's, decocking levers and practice with double action trigger pulls if you chose a double action single action semi automatic. Marksmanship should not be your only metric to measure your ability, handling skills are what are going to allow you to operate safely and proficiently in a real-world situation. We've worked with many people who are decent marksman but have sloppy draws, sloppy reholsters, improper grips when they draw from a holster, and as soon as you start practicing the whole A to Z process oftentimes marksmanship takes a steep dive. Carrying a firearm is more than just a recreational bullseye plinking event. The carrier has to train to a much higher degree to be an asset to themselves and their community.
